Job Description

A job description is a document that outlines the activities and tasks an employee is expected to perform in a specific role. Traditional job descriptions are often overly prescriptive and inflexible, creating an environment where employees can say, “That is not in my job description”—meaning they are set up to perform only the tasks explicitly stated in the document. In contrast, modern Human Resource management focuses on making job descriptions results-oriented rather than task-based. Furthermore, it is recommended to specify the technical (hard) and general (soft) skills necessary to achieve those results. HR professionals should also note that there is no need to include provisions in the job description that are already covered by internal labor regulations and employment contracts.
