What does “ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE” really mean?

This is a question that leaders and managers often ask themselves. The answer may not always be clear, or the existing situation may not be fully recognized. If confusion exists, it is important to identify what exactly is unclear and why.

The nature of relationships among employees—such as trust, respect, communication, attitudes, and patterns of thinking and behavior—may be clearly reflected within the organization.

According to Professor Edgar Schein of MIT, organizational culture is defined as a *set of shared beliefs, values, norms, and assumptions that influence how issues are perceived and how decisions are made within an organization.

Based on his framework, organizational culture is partially expressed through physical facilities, branding, websites, and social media presence, while it is more deeply reflected through employee behavior, attitudes, and everyday practices, which represent the organization’s underlying cultural values.
